SK Visited Our Classroom…
This week, the Senior Kindergartener (SK) class came and visited with the Bambinis. At first all the children were a little shy. Timidly, the SK class introduced themselves and then the Bambini children one by one quietly said their names with a little prompting from the teachers. It was not long however, before the Bambini children were taking the SK children’s hands and leading them around the room to show them their classroom.
One of the SK children sat in the book corner and looked at books with several children. As they looked at books together, the Bambinis would point to the illustrations and the SK child would talk about what was being depicted in the picture. On the large rug, a SK child was showing a few Bambini children how to extend their play with cars by making roads with tiles and blocks for them to drive their cars on. In another area, the SK teacher, Mr. Reynolds was helping other Bambini children explore the sensory table that had water and sea animals in it. As teachers, its moments like the ones that we described above that fill our hearts with joy and affirm that our children are learning!
Part of our school’s philosophy is to create an environment where all the children have opportunities to play and learn together in a collaborative setting. As the SK and Bambini children played together, both were having opportunities to learn from one another and further their cognitive and social development.
