Exploration from this week….
This week during Indoor Exploration we investigated a real bird’s nest! For several weeks, the nest had sat on the windowsill in a plastic container waiting to be discovered. On Thursday, a friend found it! The child then wanted Ms. Wilson to take it out of the container for him to get a closer look. As the child and Ms. Wilson talked about the “nest”, other children become curious too and came over to see what all the commotion was about. Before the “nest” was taken out of the container, we talked about how the “nest” was fragile and required “gentle touches”. Each of the children practiced gently touching Ms. Wilson’s arms before touching the nest. We started to talk about the concept of “homes” and the differences between homes, their own homes and a bird’s home. The concept of homes is one we will continue to explore throughout the year!

Welcome, Bambino!
We introduced our classroom mascot, Bambino. Bambino is a Three Toed Sloth from the Tropical rain forests in Central America. The Bambino classroom adopted him through WWF and this donation will help protect natural environments and endangered species, like Bambino. On Tuesday at Morning Meeting, we talked about how he was sad and scared like his fellow classmates on his first day of school. Very “tentatively” he shook hands with each of the children. Many of the children smiled and were very curious about their new classmate. On Thursday, our Morning Meeting was followed by reading “Slowly, Slowly, Slowly,” said the Sloth by Eric Carle. Having Bambino in our classroom gives us endless possibilities of teaching moments to enhance our children’s learning experiences. With Bambino, we can not only support and discuss our feelings and emotions, but also bring self awareness and awareness of our surroundings. It is our hope that by talking about Bambino and his home that the children will become aware of how we all come from different homes and environments.

Exploring Outside….
In preparation for our “long” journey to Trio Park, we started to “practice” walking in front of our school. Each child is assigned a colored handle on a rope. T. For our first attempt, things went really great! Please remind the children of our safety rules at home: WALKING FEET AND HOLDING ONTO THE ROPE!
