What We Explored….
Our second week of school was full of new experiences! First, the children stayed at school for two full hours! In addition, all the children were able to stay in the classroom without their parents/caregivers! Although we saw (and we will continue to see) some tears, we are very certain that everybody will have a great time playing and learning together at school. When you leave the classroom please stay away from our classroom door. Once children see you sitting by the door, it makes the separation process more difficult.
As children are becoming more comfortable in the classroom, they are starting to play with other friends. There are also some other friends that are choosing to play independently. Playing with playdough continues to be a popular choice in the art area. This week, the children explored how playdough, shells, acorns and cork could be used together. In the dramatic play area, another friend dressed up as a fireman. Other friends created their first picture with crayons, shape cut outs and glue.
This week’s highlights are Group snack and Snack Helper!
For some friends this was the first time they drank from a regular cup. It was a bit messy, but that is ok! The more we practice serving, eating and drinking ourselves, the easier it will get! Community snack is an opportunity for each of our children to practice table manners and language skills. Community snack also is a classroom community building opportunity.
We also had two children help prepare snack. Being a Snack Helper is a huge responsibility. First, with the assistance of Ms. Wilson, the children had to determine how many friends they needed to get snack for. We then went to ‘the market’ to collect snack. We set the table and finally served the snack to each of their classmates. The Snack Helper is also responsible for announcing what is on the menu for that day.
