Since the new year started, taking attendance with the children is part of our routine at Morning Meeting. After the "morning counter" counts how many children are present with a teacher, we go through who is here and who is not, by using the children's name cards with their picture. When we present the card, we emphasize the beginning sound of each child's name. For instance, we say "Who is this child, whose name starts with P [/p/] ? Is he here today?" When children find out who that is, the child will say "I am here" with her/his hand raised. Through this daily practice, children are becoming aware of our classroom community and with letter sounds and recognition.
This week's puppet show was about emotions. Our friends, Z (the Zebra) & G (the Giraffe) talked about how they feel angry sometimes. Z and G told the children that they can always ask teachers and parents for help when they feel angry. In addition, we practiced taking a deep breath a few times as a solution to calm ourselves down. We also read When Sophie Gets Angry--Really, Really Angry... by Molly Bang to support the children's emotional awareness.
This week we had our first parent in our classroom for Morning with the Bambini. If you have not signed up yet, you can do so here. We look forward to having you!
It's cold and flu season! We miss our friends who are not able to come to school. If you notice your child/children experiencing severe runny nose(s) and cough(s), please keep them home. Our young children love to share everything, including germs! We wish you well and look forward to having all of you back next week!
